Best Ice Cream Shop in America 2005, Readers Digest. An honor just to be nominated.
Best Ice Cream Parlor in the Twin Cities 2002, City Pages. We take great pleasure in this award.
Best Place in Town for Dessert 2002, The Rake. Rake's readers voted us number one place for dessert in 2002.
One of the Top 100 Things To Do in Minnesota 2002, Twin Cities Taste. Our izzy scoop came in number 83. "That cute little MINI-SCOOP of another flavor served on top of the scoop you order at Izzy's ice cream parlor on Marshall in St. Paul and on Nicollet in Minneapolis."
Best Shakes and Malts 2002, Minnesota Monthly. Here's what Minnesota Monthly had to say:
Izzy's Ice Cream Café . . . makes the richest, creamiest, most unbelievably delicious ice cream, in grown-up flavors like Cherries Jubilee, Fig Tart, Norwegian Chai, and [Dark Chocolate Zin] dark chocolate with cocoa, red Zinfandel, and balsamic vinegar. Yep, all that in one flavor. These are intense taste sensations, and not for the faint of heart. Even a simple choice, like strawberry, is absolutely transporting to the tongue.
Best Vanilla in the Twin Cities, St. Paul Pioneer Press, 2001. In the summer of 2001 the St. Paul Pioneer Press did a taste test of local vanilla shops around the Twin Cities and rated each shop’s vanilla. The food reviewer, Gita Sitaramiah, conducted a rating system in which each vanilla ice cream was rated for price, quantity, flavors, and quality. The quality section of the rating scale read: "A 10! Creamy!." "Good vanilla flavor and not too sweet."
Recognition, St. Paul Pioneer Press, August 5, 2000. Kathie Jenkins, food critic, of the Pioneer Press, gave us our first publicity, a little food critic article, published after we were open for about one week. Although the review pointed out we needed some refinement in design and service areas, it did give an overall favorable impression of our shop including a plug for our izzy scoop, and a favorable tasting of our house-made hot fudge.
Best New Ice Cream Spot 2000, Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, December 2000. The first award we ever won. We even have a plaque at our shop signifying the honor. Here's what they had to say about the young Izzy's:
With big-kahuna restaurants swarming the consumer ocean, it's refreshing to see that neighborhoods still spawn little minnows. Izzy's Ice Cream Café, is such a place, with all the ice cream—traditional flavors like French vanilla and butter pecan as well as more inventive offerings like Norwegian chai and cream cheese—made on site. And with its unbeatable creaminess and deep, rich, flavor, what more could you want? The owners of Izzy's Ice Cream Café, Jeff & Lara, are proud to be a part of the Twin Cities' homemade ice cream market. The Twin Cities is home to a lot of great ice cream, and our community should be honored for their support of good, quality ice cream. We would also like to thank our customer base and all those, media included, who have recognized our shop! THANKS!
